Found a scene where they didn't do 'linking the stylistic tranlations to on-screen objects' suggested by the video, and it actually took away from the experience of the anime. Rio: Rainbow Gate (ignore the fanservice and it's got a pretty decent story as well).
One of the episodes and the special feature a character that's completely silent, except for a spell tag on their hat. It isn't translated, so someone who doesn't read kanji is completely clueless about it without context, it's actually really easy to miss that the tag even changes when he first shows up. The special has a psudo-translator (she's as vocal as Yuki).

The same thing could have happened with Celty from Durarara.

Same here, and the worst thing about it is...I saw their subs of the Gundam 00 movie! Instead of enjoying the movie like I was supposed to, I couldn't help but do a Cornette Face and facepalm at their botch-job. -_- I wouldn't be surprised if English isn't their main language.

And it's not just failsubs that make me facepalm as an anime watcher. Some fansub groups have the audacity to insert what they think is a good cover of an anime opening song over the actual opening song. I encountered one fansub of a Gundam 00 (again) episode that has fanboys singing "Namida no Mukou." More recently, one fansub of the newest episode of Mirai Nikki (episode 10) has that piano cover of "Kuusou Mesorogii," which blended badly with the actual opening. This forced me to skip the opening entirely. >_< (I read from one comment on Random Curiosity that the fansub group deliberately inserted it, but I will decline from naming the group as they don't deserve the recognition. =P)

they have since v2'd it, syncing the piano cover with the OP.
still, i don't really think it's such a big deal considering that they are going to release a quality sub after their speedsub release.

I personally don't like complaining about fansubs. After all, we are getting it for free, and there is nothing forcing us to watch an specific fansub. And in the worst case where there is only one subs available because it's a less known show, then I think some weak quality subs are better than nothing. The only thing I really dislike are those fansubs that likes trolling through their subs.

^ I guess you have a point. But I still think people should actually know the languages before fansubbing and putting it on the internet for everyone to see. And when they think they're doing it right. It's just annoying to stumble upon those fansubs.

YMMV, but I consider adding the fan piano cover over the actual opening song (and the ending, as it turns out) as a form of trolling. Especially when I find the OP and ED of Mirai Nikki to be awesome "as is."

Oh well, on the bright side, at least I got the gist of that particular episode.

you're right, they were trolling. in fact, i think they did it on purpose to see the reactions of the leechers.
well, i got a good laugh out of the comments and i think the staff did, too. imo, i don't care if they troll as long as they're not affecting the subs (i.e. the story itself).

You have a point there. I mean, they're doing their best to bring us quality shows. That's why subs like Hadena never quit what they're doing. Though I do prefer it if they at least took care to make it readable, although I don't mind some mistakes here and there. We're not made of steel, after all.

Also, I usually don't like speed subbing. I mean, I think Fansubs should take their time when bringing an episode to us, just as VN translators don't rush their patches (though the SG translation has been going quicly and smoothly). We're patient, and we can wait. At least, I imagine most of us here are.
