(IS (Infinite Stratos))

Postby Kiopi » Fri Mar 18, 2011 2:27 pm

Someone was asking at another site.

Is it really necessary to use "(IS (Infinite Stratos))" instead of Infinite Stratos when Neon Genesis Evangelion is not abbreviated as (NGE (Neon Genesis Evangelion))?

This isn't a good comparison as the official title of Infinite Stratos includes the IS part. I never read Evangelion as you write it, the official title being Shinseiki Evangelion or Neon Genesis Evangelion, as far as I know at least.

I agree the "IS" part is useless, but it's necessary to have the name of all the shows written correctly.

I think, though, I should update it now to

IS <Infinite Stratos>

with <> instead of (). I think that wasn't confirmed yet a few weeks ago when I first populated the database. Hm.

Using <> would at least help the look of it some by reducing the number of parentheses.

At least it won't be wrong to follow the offical title.

To answer your question, IS official website commonly refers the show title as IS<インフィニット・ストラトス>

If you look at even their DVD/BD releases, you will see IS<インフィニット・ストラトス>Blu-ray&DVD 第1巻 instead of インフィニット・ストラトスBlu-ray&DVD 第1巻. That is the same case of light novel releases.

On the other hand, Neon Genesis Evangelion never uses abbreviations in any of the official sources. Japanese official websites uses 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン or sometimes use Neon Genesis Evangelion.

So in short, those two cannot be compared.
