Your ally in Amethyst

Your ally in Amethyst

Postby maglor » Mon Jun 20, 2011 3:49 pm

Here is a challenge to anyone who has some time. You may be surprised in knowing which region in the world is most likely to vote in the way you like.

Which region is your ally in the Amethyst period?

Method 1 : The simple method.

For Amethyst 1,2,3, and perhaps 4 if you want to, there are 78 ( 104 ) matches, of which you are likely to have voted in more than half of the matches. Count how many times a region's majority went the same way as you voted and then subtract the number of the times that region went against your vote. ( Simple counting on how many time a region went the same way won't work in cases of abstain and also in case a region went even 50% ). List the regions in order of match with your vote and see which region is top 3 and which region is the bottom 3.

Method 2: The superior method

For the 78 ( 104 ) matches, add up the percentage of the voters that voted in same way as you did. For example if a country voted 68.2% for contestant B when you voted contestant A, that would mean 31.8% of the voters there voted for A, so you write down 31.8% for that country for that match. Add up all the percentages. Again see which region is top 3 and which region is the bottom 3 for you.

Why take the pain to crunch so many numbers ( 104 * 17 = 1768 numbers!!! )? Because now you know where your friends and enemies are!!!

The real reason :

Just try this for 10 match of your choice as a start. You will be very surprised and likely discover that a region you thought to be your enemy may actually be your friend.

I've tried this during aquamarine for potential top 16 characters but got tired of it lol.

Anyway, the most obvious one should be Russia strongly supports Lucky Star's and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu's characters ^^;

As I said, just try it for 10 matches of your choice, first. That can be accomplished in less than half an hour if you use some spreadsheets.

Sorry that's in chinese, I think i deleted the original spreadsheet. From Aquamarine 1-5. Positive numbers mean how much higher than Average vote percentage, vice versa.

Columns (From left to right) Name, Vote for (%), Canada, USA, South America,West Europe, East Europe,Russia,Asia(others),China, Thailand,Indonesia, Taiwan,Hong Kong, Australia, Philippines, Japan, Korea.

I have done some attempts to calculate the geographical distribution of votes.

But because world's vote percentage is the image.I recorded the data too much time spent. No way to calculate each one.

If you can provide a text version, I believe I can do better.

^ This.

I don't have a spreadsheet, but I can make an IRC script to parse and evaluate numbers easily.

For now, I used your simple method and did it on 30 matches (10 from Amethyst 1, 10 from Amethyst 2, etc.):

Spoiler for results:
US: 24
China: 20
Canada: 18
Philippines: 18
West Europe: 16
South America: 14
Africa: 13
South Asia: 10
Taiwan: 10
Japan: 10
Korea: 10
Hong Kong: 8
Australia: 8
East Europe: 6
Indonesia: 6
Thailand: 4
Russia: 1

Looks like my tastes are kinda mainstream and compatible with China. Now I'll be hated all over the forum. \o/

I am very fascinated by the fact that in the 30 matches of your choice, China and Taiwan has very different scores.

In the beginning, I'd thought they would have around the same preference as well, so I was surprised when I found out that their colors are different half the time.

Ignoring percentages, Japan and Korea mostly voted the same.

Though I doubt these results are very accurate, with only 30 matches using simple comparison.

Well, 30 is a small sample, so we can't make a definite claim yet, but still, this slightly raises the chance that

(1) China and Taiwan votes independently of each other, thus we can't lump them together in analysis.

(2) Japan and Korea are more similar than many have suspected.

I've checked the 78 matches in the Amethyst 1,2, and 3. The result counted by the 1st method is below.
Spoiler:
Hong Kong: 44
Korea: 30
Indonesia: 30
Thailand: 30
Asia: 30
Taiwan: 28
Japan: 24
Canada: 24
US: 22
Australia: 20
Philippines: 12
South America: 12
China: 10
West Europe: 6
East Europe: 2
Russia: 0
Africa: -2

So I find Hong Kong to be my most trustworthy ally. And the enemies are nearly all around me. lol

to Korea and Russia for being biggest Hitagifans

I was too lazy to check everything but at least for the matches that I kinda cared about, seems like US is my greatest ally.

I checked it out a bit (only lookin for Mikuru, Tomoyo, Kyou and Yuki's matches), and seems that Africa is my best ally (al least for Tomoyo and, a bit less, Mikuru, even if there is not a really Mikuru-supporting country)...
Also, Russia is a very Yuki-liking country, and this is good. :D

I didn't know Africans has such a good taste in moe... xD
